Trust Our Experienced Dentist

Dr. Cory McMahan is a general dentist in Mooresville, NC whose experience and training enable him to provide comprehensive care. So whether you're due for a dental checkup, need a filling, or have more complex needs, we can help you!

Our dental team loves getting to know toddlers visiting us for the first time as much as we enjoy working with adults who have ever-changing oral health needs. The services we offer are designed to help everyone in your family maintain, improve, and enhance their smiles.

High-Quality Dentistry in One Convenient Location

We are pleased to offer a wealth of services, so everyone in your family can receive quality dental care in one comfortable, convenient location.

Dental Exams and Teeth Cleanings

Preventive dentistry is the foundation for healthy teeth and gums. When you visit us every six months for exams and cleanings, we can provide early treatment for cavities and gum disease found by Dr. McMahan. Treating these conditions in their early stages can spare you the discomfort of dental emergencies and the cost of more complex treatment in the future.

Treatment for Decayed and Broken Teeth

It’s crucial to treat cavities as soon as they are found. With our tooth-colored fillings, our dentist can make repairs that are virtually invisible and last for years. If decay takes up too much of your tooth, our dentist might recommend a high-quality dental crown, also known as a tooth cap, so that you can chew on the tooth comfortably again.

Solutions for Missing Teeth

Missing teeth can threaten your long-term oral health and mar your beautiful smile. Our tooth replacement solutions include:

  • Dental implants
  • Dental bridges
  • Complete and partial dentures
  • Implant-supported dentures

If you are ready to take the next step to fill the gap in your smile and boost your self-confidence at the same time, we would love to meet with you to discuss your options!

Comfortable Root Canals and Tooth Extractions

An infected or inflamed tooth is a problem that requires prompt attention. If you have a toothache, Dr. McMahan will recommend root canal therapy to relieve your pain, remove the infection, and save your tooth.

If we have exhausted all possibilities to save your tooth, we would likely recommend removing it. We might also recommend extraction if you’re getting implants or dentures or if a wisdom tooth is impacted or threatening surrounding teeth.

Our dental team makes your comfort a priority, and our goal is a stress-free procedure.

Schedule Your Next Exam and Teeth Cleaning

If you're hesitant to make an appointment because your teeth aren’t in great shape, please know that we are a judgment-free dental practice. Our only concern is helping you get your oral health back on track.

We also offer emergency dentistry if you have a toothache, broken tooth, or any other urgent dental situation. Please call us so we can plan to see you as soon as possible!

We are pleased to meet the dental needs of patients in Mooresville, Lake Norman, Cornelius, Davidson, and all surrounding communities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Brushing your teeth conscientiously every day is a great start for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. However, your brush and floss can’t get your teeth as clean as they need to be.

Plaque is the sticky, bacteria-filled film that builds up on your teeth throughout the day. Brushing and flossing daily removes a lot of the buildup, but it can’t touch every surface of your tooth where plaque develops.

Routine Teeth Cleanings for a Healthy Smile

As it sits on your teeth for a while, plaque hardens into a mineral-like substance called tartar. You can brush and floss your heart out, but you can’t remove tartar buildup that puts you at risk for gum disease. Only an experienced dental hygienist using specialized instruments can remove tartar.

At Harbor Point Family Dentistry, we follow the American Dental Association’s guidelines and recommend teeth cleanings and exams every six months. If you keep your teeth as clean as you can between visits, avoid sweets, and see us routinely, you are doing everything you can to maintain healthy teeth and gums.

Yes, you still need a tooth filling even if your tooth doesn't hurt. The cavity may not hurt now, but the thing about tooth decay is that it doesn't go away on its own. You can go for a while without feeling any pain, but while you’re waiting, the decay is spreading and damaging more of your tooth.

Putting off needed dental treatment is never a good idea, and the time to fill a cavity is when you know you have one. A small cavity is typically an easy fix, and our dentist can treat it and have you in and out of the dental chair relatively quickly.

If you postpone treatment, you risk the situation worsening, and if the decay advances and reaches the tooth’s nerve, you will likely experience severe pain. Also, the longer you postpone treatment, the more complex and expensive the solution becomes. For example, instead of a filling, our dentist may need to place a dental crown or even perform a root canal to save the tooth.

The reality is that even if you can ride out the pain for a few days, the problem will still worsen. If you wait too long, we may no longer have the option of saving the tooth, and, worst-case scenario, we may need to remove it.

Prompt Dental Treatment Can Save Your Tooth

No matter what dental problem you have, prompt treatment is always better than waiting—better for your oral health, your overall health, and your budget. Ideally, you would visit us every six months for dental exams and teeth cleanings. Then our dentist could discover issues like cavities and treat them in their earliest stages, helping you avoid the need for complex treatment.

We offer emergency dentistry at our Mooresville dental office, so please call us if you’re experiencing a toothache. Our dental team will schedule you to see our dentist promptly and relieve your pain.

We are pleased to treat friends and neighbors in Lake Norman, Mooresville, Cornelius, Davidson, and all surrounding communities.

What dental x-rays and fluoride treatments have in common is that both play a part in helping you maintain healthy teeth and gums. They are part of preventive dentistry, and the goal is to help you avoid the need for complex or costly dental care by offering them.

Why We Recommend Dental X-Rays

Our dentist is very thorough when providing a comprehensive dental exam, and he learns a lot during the process. The one thing a visual exam can’t do is show us the inside of your teeth and under your gums.

Both are areas where cavities and gum disease most commonly develop. By taking an x-ray, we can find hidden cavities in their earliest stages and treat them promptly before it threatens your oral health.

Fluoride Strengthens Teeth

Fluoride is a naturally occurring substance found in rocks and releases into the soil, air, and water. All water sources contain some level of fluoride, including ocean water. We use fluoride in dentistry because it helps make teeth resistant to a process called demineralization that weakens tooth enamel and leads to cavities.

Fluoride’s important for kids while their teeth are developing, and even adults benefit from it. So while you or your child may already be receiving enough fluoride, our dentist will tell you if they think you can benefit from a supplemental fluoride application.

We’re Always Happy to Answer Your Questions

If you have any concerns about how we use dental x-rays or fluoride treatments at our Mooresville, NC dental office, please call Harbor Point Family Dentistry.

General Dentistry Technology

Digital Dental X-Rays and Sensors

Dental x-rays are a crucial technology that our dentist uses to see what he can’t see with a visual examination. He can’t treat what he can’t see, and dental x-rays give us the complete picture of your oral health.

Digital x-rays and sensors make enhancing images easy for earlier and more accurate diagnosis. Digital x-rays provide instant images for fast diagnosis and can be stored in your digital records over time. Since they do not require chemicals for development, they are also better for the environment!

A dental x-ray shows our dentist an image of the entire tooth, from the root to the crown. He then uses the x-rays to diagnose cavities, impacted teeth, fractures, infections, and more.

Dental x-rays are also a great educational tool because when Dr. McMahan shares them with you, you can see what he sees. They say seeing is believing, and when you visualize a cavity on an x-ray, you can understand why you need treatment and how it will benefit you. This keeps you informed about your needs and allows you to make more confident treatment decisions.
