Dental insurance is a fantastic benefit that makes oral health care accessible and affordable for many who would otherwise go without it. At Harbor Point Family Dentistry, we understand how important these benefits are for your family.
We Work with Your Dental Insurance
We do all we can to ensure that you always receive the maximum benefits allowable under your insurance plan. Our dental team is knowledgeable about the ins and outs of the various insurance plans—and there are a lot of them! Each offers different levels of benefits, which vary greatly from one insurance provider to another.
When we plan your treatment, we will get a pre-treatment estimate and ensure it is as accurate as possible. We don’t like surprises either, and you’re entitled to know what your approximate out-of-pocket cost will be.
Regardless of who your dental provider is, our dental team will submit your claim as a courtesy. We currently work with the following dental insurances:
- Blue Cross/Blue Shield
- Delta Dental
- Dental Health Alliance/SunLife
- Lincoln Financial
- United Healthcare
If you don’t have dental insurance, we’ve still got you covered. We are pleased to work with CareCredit financing, where you can get the dentistry you need today, then pay off the balance in smaller monthly payments. CareCredit offers several types of financing, and we will be happy to assist you in applying.
Whatever your financial needs are, please don’t hesitate to call us with your questions. We‘re committed to making your dental treatment affordable and will always work with your needs to try and help you.

Brushing your teeth conscientiously every day is a great start for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. However, your brush and floss can’t get your teeth as clean as they need to be.
Plaque is the sticky, bacteria-filled film that builds up on your teeth throughout the day. Brushing and flossing daily removes a lot of the buildup, but it can’t touch every surface of your tooth where plaque develops.
Routine Teeth Cleanings for a Healthy Smile
As it sits on your teeth for a while, plaque hardens into a mineral-like substance called tartar. You can brush and floss your heart out, but you can’t remove tartar buildup that puts you at risk for gum disease. Only an experienced dental hygienist using specialized instruments can remove tartar.
At Harbor Point Family Dentistry, we follow the American Dental Association’s guidelines and recommend teeth cleanings and exams every six months. If you keep your teeth as clean as you can between visits, avoid sweets, and see us routinely, you are doing everything you can to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
Book Your Next Teeth Cleaning with Us

Yes, you still need a tooth filling even if your tooth doesn't hurt. The cavity may not hurt now, but the thing about tooth decay is that it doesn't go away on its own. You can go for a while without feeling any pain, but while you’re waiting, the decay is spreading and damaging more of your tooth.
Putting off needed dental treatment is never a good idea, and the time to fill a cavity is when you know you have one. A small cavity is typically an easy fix, and our dentist can treat it and have you in and out of the dental chair relatively quickly.
If you postpone treatment, you risk the situation worsening, and if the decay advances and reaches the tooth’s nerve, you will likely experience severe pain. Also, the longer you postpone treatment, the more complex and expensive the solution becomes. For example, instead of a filling, our dentist may need to place a dental crown or even perform a root canal to save the tooth.
The reality is that even if you can ride out the pain for a few days, the problem will still worsen. If you wait too long, we may no longer have the option of saving the tooth, and, worst-case scenario, we may need to remove it.
Prompt Dental Treatment Can Save Your Tooth
No matter what dental problem you have, prompt treatment is always better than waiting—better for your oral health, your overall health, and your budget. Ideally, you would visit us every six months for dental exams and teeth cleanings. Then our dentist could discover issues like cavities and treat them in their earliest stages, helping you avoid the need for complex treatment.
We offer emergency dentistry at our Mooresville dental office, so please call us if you’re experiencing a toothache. Our dental team will schedule you to see our dentist promptly and relieve your pain.
We are pleased to treat friends and neighbors in Lake Norman, Mooresville, Cornelius, Davidson, and all surrounding communities.
What dental x-rays and fluoride treatments have in common is that both play a part in helping you maintain healthy teeth and gums. They are part of preventive dentistry, and the goal is to help you avoid the need for complex or costly dental care by offering them.
Why We Recommend Dental X-Rays
Our dentist is very thorough when providing a comprehensive dental exam, and he learns a lot during the process. The one thing a visual exam can’t do is show us the inside of your teeth and under your gums.
Both are areas where cavities and gum disease most commonly develop. By taking an x-ray, we can find hidden cavities in their earliest stages and treat them promptly before it threatens your oral health.
Fluoride Strengthens Teeth
Fluoride is a naturally occurring substance found in rocks and releases into the soil, air, and water. All water sources contain some level of fluoride, including ocean water. We use fluoride in dentistry because it helps make teeth resistant to a process called demineralization that weakens tooth enamel and leads to cavities.
Fluoride’s important for kids while their teeth are developing, and even adults benefit from it. So while you or your child may already be receiving enough fluoride, our dentist will tell you if they think you can benefit from a supplemental fluoride application.
We’re Always Happy to Answer Your Questions

Root Canal Treatment
We understand that visiting a dental office for treatment is probably not your favorite thing to do. However, it’s crucial to maintain healthy teeth and gums for both your oral and overall health. At Harbor Point Family Dentistry, we offer a warm and welcoming environment and a friendly dental team that’s sensitive to your needs.
You don’t have to worry that your procedure will hurt because we use a powerful local anesthetic to ensure that your tooth is numb before we begin. You’ll stay numb throughout treatment so you can remain comfortable and get needed dental care.
Nitrous Oxide (“Laughing Gas”)
Most anyone who suffers from dental anxiety can benefit from minimal sedation with nitrous oxide or laughing gas. Nitrous oxide is a gas combined with oxygen and delivered through a comfortable mask placed over your nose.
Nitrous is mild and won’t put you to sleep. You’ll be aware of what’s happening, and you can communicate with our team. However, you’ll feel very relaxed, a little dreamy, and detached from the sights and sounds around you.
After your procedure, we’ll have you sit and inhale pure oxygen for a few minutes, and the effects wear off quickly. Nitrous is the only form of sedation where patients can drive themselves home from their appointment.
